Project Overview

The Ormlie Industrial Estate in Thurso required extensive refurbishment and asbestos removal to ensure the safety and functionality of the building. T&S Environmental was tasked with stripping out various internal elements and replacing the roofing structure with new materials. This project showcased our ability to handle large-scale refurbishment while adhering to strict safety protocols.

Initial Requirements & Challenges

The project required the removal of multiple internal elements, including ceiling areas, partitions, blinds, and plasterboard. Additionally, the removal of mechanical and electrical plant, ceiling insulation, kitchen areas, fire breaks, carpets, and asbestos sheeting was necessary. The primary challenge was to manage these extensive tasks while ensuring the building's structural integrity and the safety of all personnel involved.

Investigation & Findings

A thorough survey revealed significant contamination from asbestos materials and the need for extensive internal stripping. The survey outlined the necessity for proper site setup, including welfare facilities and site inductions, to ensure all workers were adequately prepared for the tasks ahead.

Our approach involved several key steps:

Site Setup: Ensured proper welfare facilities and site induction for all workers.
Partition and Ceiling Work: Removal and boarding around walls, removal of ceiling grid and tiles.
Flooring and Blinds: Removal of carpet tiles and blinds within windows.
Scaffolding and Safety: Installed scaffolding for safe access to elevated work areas, supporting the removal and replacement process.

Waste Management: Utilised waste skips for efficient debris removal, ensuring a clean and safe work environment. The meticulous handling of asbestos-containing materials and the comprehensive refurbishment of the building underscored our commitment to safety and quality.

The project required careful coordination to manage the extensive internal stripping and asbestos removal.
